This page explains where these project names come from and how they relate to other people's work. It covers the open-source packages Narsil and Sirannon and their documentation sites.
Where the names come from
Narsil and Sirannon take their names from J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth writing, where Narsil is a sword and Sirannon is a stream near Moria. They are only project names, chosen because they read well and are easy to remember. Nothing in these projects retells, quotes, or reproduces Tolkien's stories.
No affiliation
These projects are independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Tolkien Estate, Middle-earth Enterprises, or Warner Bros. They use none of the imagery, logos, fonts, or artwork associated with Tolkien's books or their film adaptations.
Open source and licence
Narsil and Sirannon are open-source software released under the Apache 2.0 licence. You are free to use, change, and share them under its terms. You'll find the source on GitHub, linked from each project's site.
